Activities with Dotty

Dotty the puppet sitting in a tree

Within the project, we have developed tours and workshops with Dotty about the topics of climate change, the ocean and citizenship.

Below we present an overview of the materials that are currently being developed and tested. They can be used for inspiration or for adaptation in your own educational setting. See Your own puppet for suggestions. At the end of the project you can find direct links to all of the materials. Contact us if you are curious for sample materials from the phase we are currently in!

Workshops

Caring for our Planet! — climate change

Dotty is curious about the changes happening on Earth. Together, Dotty and the children will explore what climate change is, how it affects people, animals, plants, and the places we live, and why every action matters. Through playful, sensory activities, children are encouraged to observe, question, and understand the connections between our everyday choices and the health of the planet. Along the way, they discover simple ways to take action and help create a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone.

SPLASH — Learn to care for our amazing ocean

Dotty comes back from a trip to a very different, yet vital, environment for us all: the Ocean. Together, Dotty and the children will discover what makes the Ocean so unique, why it is essential for all living beings — including humans — the challenges it is facing, and how they can help make a difference.

By using their different senses, children are encouraged to explore, discover, and better understand the Ocean and its importance. Along the way, they will learn how the choices and changes they make can contribute to creating the healthy, thriving Ocean we need and want for the future.

The Welcome Party! — citizenship

Dotty wearing a party hat at the welcome party

Dotty is a newcomer, a shy creature from far away. Children are invited to organize a welcome party for it, which helps them practice empathy by recognizing and responding to the feelings of someone who is new or different. By helping Dotty together, they feel empowered and learn that their actions can make a positive difference. Using sound, movement, and simple materials, the workshop encourages participation, inclusion, and collaboration.

Tours

Climate Change & Us — climate change

Overhead view of children taking part in a workshop

Dotty takes the children on an interactive journey to discover how our planet is changing and what we can do about it. Through playful challenges, movement, touch, observation, and exploration, they experience some of the effects of climate change — from extreme weather and rising seas to changes in animal habitats — and discover ways to both adapt and take action. Along the way, children learn that choices such as using clean energy, protecting nature, travelling more sustainably, and consuming more responsibly can help build a safer and healthier future for all living beings.

Animals & Climate Change — climate change (90 minutes)

Children exploring an ocean-themed museum hall

Dotty takes you on an exploration. You’ll meet a huge elephant, hear ring-necked parakeets, dive into the ocean and travel back in time to meet a mammoth. What impact does climate change have on different animals? Children discover how they can help animals or diminish their own contribution to climate change.
